for me to train the entire upper or lower body in one training session is alot of work...theres no way I can pull it off and if I do.... I wouldnt be able to take each muscle group to failure and thats how I get the most growth from each muscle. I would put a rest day in between like you said and make sure you eat a TON and get lots of sleep so you dont "overtrain"
People say to me its possible to be too big.....but for me I dont want a physique thats average something thats reachable, I want something thats unobtainable that looks like its so hard to get, yes women hate it, BUT I FUCKIN LOVE IT....SO FUCK IT!! why do I want this??? CAUSE NORMAL FUCKIN SUCKS!!!

I haven't got the staying power of you youngsters but for me to do an entire upper or lower body workout with the required intensity would need 3 days off.
With the exception of the 5 x 5 plan, as far as I can remember I've always done chest, back, shoulders, legs in that order. I vary the rep range, the rest days and the actual exercises but that's the order.

My workouts are always based around compounds. Very few isolation exercises these days. Probably just some shoulder stuff. Seems to work for me.
