Despite being a grandfather of six, and now a great-grandfather, 81 year old Ted Brown is still a regular gym-goer and accomplished power lifter.

Ted, from Bletchley in Buckinghamshire hits the gym three times a week to keep himself in peak condition, and intends to compete in the All England Championships in October in the over 80s category.

The retired engineer has been bodybuilding since he was a young man, and holds British records in three different power lifting disciplines; the 180kg squat lift, 120kg bench press and 200kg to 500kg deadlift.

He took up power lifting in the 1970s and has won 27 British titles over the years, in age groups ranging from 50-plus to 80-plus.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ted acknowledged that it does get harder with age, and says “I have had back injuries in the past, but not for the last 10 years.”

The health conscious octogenarian doesn’t drink or smoke, but he did undergo a triple heart by-pass in 2000. Unfazed by his age or health issues, Ted intends to re-write the record books for power lifters in the 80-plus class.

He is currently looking for a sponsor to help him compete in the Drug Free World Championships in Glasgow in November.
