Buddhist Removal Man is Bodybuilder Too!
In what seems to be an excellent career choice for an aspiring bodybuilder, Arizona-based Michael Gomberg spends his days lifting and moving heavy furniture, before heading to the gym by night to pursue his passion for bodybuilding.
A familiar face to many Telluride locals as part of the removal crew for Jo Mama’s Movers, the very same people were recently surprised to discover that Michael is not only a successful amateur bodybuilder (having taking two first places at recent bodybuilding contests) but also a dedicated Buddhist.
Having achieved first and third places in the Arizona Copper Classic and the Northern Colorado Bodybuilding Championships during the last month, he describes himself as having been a “scrawny kid in high school” who became interested in bodybuilding by pure chance.
When discussing the balance of Zen Buddhism with bodybuilding, Gomberg likened it to a “form of meditation” and is currently in the process of bulking up in order to compete in a higher bodybuilding weight class, training for two more contests in August.
