Up close and dressed in anything feminine, female bodybuilders started looking like something God had made suffering from a divine hangover and caught in delusional terrors beyond human imagination."1<br />

In 1990 Harry Crews accurately predicted the dilemma of female bodybuilding in his book "Body." Although the use (or, more appropriately, âabuseâ) of steroids is prevalent throughout the entire sports world, nowhere is it more controversial than in female bodybuilding. In a sport where the main goal is to build large and massive muscularity, a large number of competitive bodybuilders, both male and female, have resorted to using anabolic steroids to augment their competitive edge.<br />
<br />
For women, the dilemma is multi-faceted. Maria Lowe states:<br />
<br />
"Whereas the physical dynamics of consuming anabolic steroids might be fairly well understood, the social aspects remain unclear â particularly for women."2<br />
<br />
Indeed, recent detraction away from female bodybuilding and increased attention to womenâs fitness competition perhaps signifies the end of the âamazonâ female physique that has reigned for the past two decades. Perhaps the primary cause of the inevitable demise is the leadership of the bodybuilding industryâs notions regarding muscularity and feminism. Judges, officials and media in the bodybuilding industry increasingly discourage extreme muscularity in women because it is seen as unfeminine. While on the contrary, men and extreme muscularity are seen as compatible. Therefore, the lines are now drawn between fitness competitions and hardcore professional female bodybuilding.<br />
<br />
A thorough examination of the social aspects of female bodybuilding and related issues of gender pushing are not the focus of this column. Nevertheless, these issues may be of interest to readers, who may find excellent relevant discourse in several sources. Several books and articles are included at the end of this column for further reference. I will, however, address some issues here as they pertain to the average female weightlifter.<br />
<br />
Steroid use amongst female bodybuilders (fbbs) has had several trickle-down effects on women and weight lifting. Many times have I heard unknowing women state that they do not want to partake in weight training because they "donât want to get âbigâ". They equate weight lifting with the extreme muscle mass of the professional fbbs they see in many of the muscle magazines. They hear the taunts of their boyfriends or husbands claiming these fbbs look like men and are undesirable. Does this sound like an invitation for the average woman to weight train? Not all women are aware that these fbbs acquire their massive physiques with the aid of male hormone drugs. I have had to assure many women that they canât get âthatâ big unless they, too, use specific drugs and train like animals.<br />
<br />
On the other hand, many of the average gym-going women are sometimes daunted by the size of fbbs and think they are doomed to never gain any muscle mass unless they too use steroids. This is the primary impetus behind this column. In the last several months, I have received several emails requesting information on how to use steroids to gain muscle mass and lose bodyfat. These requests have come from young women and from boyfriends and husbands who want to put their wives/girlfriends on steroids. Most of the women had been weight training for only three to six months.<br />
<br />
Letâs look at why professional female (and male) bodybuilders use drugs to enhance their physiques. As in any sport, the elite athletes make it to the top competition levels. These are athletes who have several factors in their favor. First, they posses the genetics that enable them to excel at the sport that is particularly suited to their physical attributes. It is well known in sports science that athletes who have a body type suited to performing a particular sport will most likely succeed over one who does not. Most professional bodybuilders have genetics that are well suited to weightlifting. They utilize training and nutritional programs for many years that develop their genetic potentials. It is not until they reach the limit of their genetic potential that they utilize drugs to take them beyond that level in order to stay competitive.<br />
<br />
Another reason professional bodybuilders use steroids is to enhance their recovery during intensive training. Granted that steroid use may increase muscle mass without an increase in weight training, yet the gains will be minimal. To maximize the effects of steroids, trainees are able to increase the intensity and volume of their weight-training program to gain the large increases in muscle mass. Many of the training regimes presented in the muscle magazines by the big bodybuilders are used while they are on performance enhancement drugs. Thus, these regimes are falsely represented to the average weightlifter as training programs that anyone can adopt and gain similar results. Nothing could be more misleading.<br />
<br />
Many athletes with less than perfect genetics use drugs because they are compelled to stay in competition at all costs. However, the drugs will not guarantee winning. Even with an increment of improvement, they may still not reach the caliber of those who are at the top competitive levels. Then there are those who are merely looking for the âmagic pillâ to replace the effort required in training and nutrition to attain optimal results. For the average weightlifter who is not targeting the next NPC or Olympic competition, is it worth the health risks to use steroids?<br />
<br />
Most commonly, women complain that they can not increase their muscle mass and lose body fat. First, understand that these two processes are contradictory. Only beginners to weight training will be able to increase their muscle mass and lose bodyfat simultaneously. Even then, beginners will eventually reach a plateau where muscle gains will decrease. The body must be in a state of anabolism to grow. In other words, conditions must be optimal for the body to build tissue.<br />
<br />
The main criteria for increasing muscle mass are:<br />
<br />
a sound training regime,<br />
a diet that supplies the caloric level and right macro/micronutrients for anabolic growth,<br />
recovery and rest.<br />
If these factors are not optimal, no supplement in the world will add on muscle mass like magic. Steroids will not compensate for poor training and nutrition.<br />
<br />
Gaining appreciable muscle mass and dropping bodyfat at the same time is not optimal. One needs to concentrate on one or the other. Most of the claims of the muscle magazines and supplement companies that they or their products can increase muscle mass while losing body fat are false and merely a sales gimmick. The laws of thermodynamics demonstrate it is simply not possible, unless one is a very beginner. Trainees have to accept some gain in bodyfat along with the gain in muscle mass. The bodyfat can be lost later with a sensible diet.<br />

Generally, women, more than men, tend to overtrain and not eat enough. Most women bodybuilders spend hours on the cardio deck in addition to weight training 2 hours four to six days a week. Anyways a while back my wife was debating a test cycle and when I was not satisfied with the info available I turned to a few female members here for advice .That advice was invaluable and my wife decided to go forward.<br />

I wanted to publish a cycle log but my wife did not want to. The cycle went great and the sides were relatively minimal...goals were acheived so I figure it was successful.<br />

PCT - post cycle therapy -</span><br />

Most people will say there is no need for PCT - post cycle therapy - with a woman, well they are wrong!!!! The shock of suddenly stopping the anabolic steroids has been a lot more than we expected. I dug around and found a post on another forum that pretty much says what I was looking for. Hopefully anyone planning a cycle, or currently in one can find some help from the post.<br />

Ok... this subject has been up for debate for as long as i can remember... There are not many studies nor research as with anabolic steroids and PCT - post cycle therapy - for men...<br />
<br />
So, i figured it was about time to make a post about women's PCT - post cycle therapy - options to help out women when coming off a cycle and to help men help women since we are VERY different!!!<br />
<br />
Post cycle Therapy i am sure you have heard time and time again... For men, this usually includes an ancillary to re-stimulate natural test production etc. With women, PCT - post cycle therapy - is VERY VERY different.<br />
<br />
I know it has been the general assumption that women do not need PCT - post cycle therapy - , however, it has come to my attention (and from years of experience) that we actually DO in fact need PCT - post cycle therapy - ...<br />
<br />
Post cycle Therapy for women obviously does NOT include a test stimulant, but rather other factors...<br />
<br />
Tapers: Everyone wants to know about tapering... Well, that really depends on the anabolic steroids you are using... The milder the anabolic steroids, the less the taper. For example, anavar does not call for a taper, however many women have seen less side effects post cycle with a little post cycle taper. This may be 1 week after you complete your cycle where you taper down. Considering the average dosage is 10mgs, a taper would be: (5, 5, 5, 2.5, 2.5, 2.5)<br />
<br />
In my own personal experience with anavar, a taper for me really isn't necessary... so just stopping is fine. HOWEVER, i do apply Post cycle Therapy!<br />
<br />
I feel PCT - post cycle therapy - should be considered due to these reasons:<br />
<br />
Depression: MANY women report depression post cycle. I personally got it really really badly last nov, so now the last week of my cycle, i start cycling in 5HTP. You can also use St. Johns wart or valerian root etc...<br />
<br />
Estrogen Rebound: Granted anavar is a mild androgenic, it is still an androgen. Some women experience a slight estrogen rebound. I personally have ALSO experienced this...<br />
<br />
One of the ways i counteract it is to take "Twinlabs Male Fuel". This actually aids allowing my test levels to lower but not drop, thus preventing an estrogen rebound. When a hormone drops suddenly another one always tends to increase to counteract, even though it may not be beneficial to us...<br />
<br />
Another way is to use a very very mild dosage of an estrogen suppressor (ie. nolvadex) to allow the estrogen to slowly level out as the test levels fall post cycle. (As our test levels begin to return to normal and decrease, estrogen will increase post cycle, due to the fact that an anabolic steroids does suppress estrogen levels a bit, so a suppressor will control the speed at which it increases- thus preventing a possible estrogen rebound!)<br />
<br />
Appetite: Most anabolic steroids tend to increase your appetite. This has a bit to do with an accelerated metabolism (increased muscle and protein synthesis), nevertheless, anabolic steroids can increase appetite. With that said, I think a strict diet should follow your cycle.<br />
<br />
My reasoning for this is that fact that since you have an increased appetite from using an anabolic steroids, now that that is over, you will continue to experience an increased appetite, but with no anabolic steroids anymore. Basically saying that now that you are OFF, you will not be using all the calories/fuel as efficiently as when you were ON. So if you splurge like crazy, you WILL notice a rebound in weight and or fat.<br />
<br />
I HIGHLY recommend a clean diet for about 2 weeks POST cycle!!<br />
<br />
My wife personally got hit hard with depression and major loss of apetite.<br />

I thought I'd post a beginning cycle for women as there seem to be quite a few guys what want their girrrls to try one. Please keep in mind that using AAS is not to be taken lightly and the side effects can be different for each individual as sensitivities do vary from person to person.<br />

Anavar is a great way to introduce yourself to the world of AAS. Cycles can be as long as 12 weeks or as short as 8 weeks. Dosages range from 5mg to 20mg (or 40 if you are a hardcore body builder..)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
It is recommended that if you are new you start your first week at 5mg split in half morning and evening. This is to keep your blood levels fairly steady as side effects will increase if you have spikes in levels.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
If 5mg is tolerated well then move up to 10mgs. Again split morning and evening so you will be taking 5mg in the am and 5mg in the pm.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
PCT is not normally discussed for women but it is an important part of the cycle especially if you start getting into some of the more advance stacks.<br />
<br />
Although, it is hard to find many who might agree, it is recommended that you taper yourself off on the tail end of the cycle. By doing this you set your system up to recover itself with out any huge increase in estrogen.<br />
<br />
<br />
Generally speaking your grrrl will experience some fat loss and an increase in lean muslce mass given that her diet and training are spot on. This is NOT a magic diet pill. Anavar promotes lean muscle mass with minimal sides and occasional water retention. In small enough doses that its impact on the liver is minimal for women. It is also attractive to women and beginners who are not interested in dealing with needles. The predictable and minimal sides are also attractive points to those not wanting to deal with the more individual and androgenic sides of most other AAS.<br />
