On December 18, 1979, Philip Jerrod Heath the accomplished bodybuilder generally known as Phil Heath was born in Seattle, Washington, USA.

From childhood, Phil has always had athletic tendencies. He was always active doing one sport or the other.

Not much is known about his parents and siblings, however, it's a given that his parents didn't devote enough time to him as a child. They were busy pursuing their various careers which they were very successful at.

This didn't affect Phil negatively or let's say Phil didn't let it affect him negatively. It was as a result of his parent's absence that he learned basic survival skills like cooking and cleaning early on in life.

Also, his parent's successful careers as a driving force for him to become successful too.

Phil had his early education at Rainier Beach High school. While there, he joined the school's basketball team and as an athletic child, he excelled on the team.

As a result of his good performance, he was given a scholarship to study at the University of Denver in Colorado. He majored in business administration and computer science but he didn't stop playing basketball.

He gained access to the weight room while training for basketball. Initially, he saw it as a way to improve his jump power and presence on the basketball court. But since he started weight lifting, he felt that playing basketball wasn't going to help him maximize his potential to the fullest, so he stopped playing basketball. He began lifting weight full time, and although he had several jobs he didn't lose focus on his goal.

In 2002, he decided to delve full time into bodybuilding. He read many books and magazines about bodybuilding; he began to pay more attention to training strategies, nutrition, and supplementation.

His first competition as a bodybuilder was the Rocky Mountain Northern Physique committee, where he earned the title of Champion. This also got people to start calling him 'The Gift' and 'The Next Big Thing' as his nickname.

Phil Heath's Bodybuilding Career​
Phil Heath began his bodybuilding career professionally in 2002. In the National Physique Committee (NPC) USA Championships in 2005, he won the overall title. His victory earned him the right to contest as an IFBB pro. The following year in 2006, he had two more victories in the two IFBB professional events of that year. The professional events were the Colorado Pro Championships and the New York Pro Championships.

Phil came fifth at the Arnold Classic in 2007, and even though this results qualified him to compete at the 2007 Mr. Olympia competition, Heath dropped out of the competition, and when he revealed his reason, it was because he felt he needed to improve even more to be competitive at the Olympia level.

In 2008, Heath participated in the Iron Man Show and won. Also, at the Arnold Classic in 2008, he came second with Dexter Jackson holding the first position. He also partook in the Mr. Olympia competition in 2008 and placed third. This made him the second amateur bodybuilder to rank in the top three after Wheeler in 1993.

He placed fifth position at the Mr. Olympia competition in 2009 and placed second position at Mr. Olympia in 2010. In the Mr. Olympia event of 2011, he placed first. Phil upheld this position for seven years in a row up until 2018 when he lost the position to Shawn Rhoden and placed second.
Professional wrestling​
As a professional bodybuilder, it was quite easy for Phil to pick an interest in wrestling. He already had the build and the strength that befits a wrestler. Although he didn't take on wrestling full time, he did partake in some matches.

On October 20, 2013, Phil accompanied The BroMans (Jessie Godderz and Robbie E) to the ring during the countdown to TNA's Bound for Glory pre-show. They won the match and later that night, he accompanied the BroMans again to their TNA World Tag team Championship match. They fought against Gunner and James Storm.

Phil didn't take on wrestling as a full-time career but he made appearances and was successful in it.
