Ogy's Training Log

6 Weeks till my favourite run series Brooks HellRunner Series

Kinda starts a season of trail and fell runs for me lasting till Feb

I ran the Yorkshire 3 peaks some 10 weeks ago and have done little since resting an injured right knee so it's 6 hard weeks for me now to get back up to scratch.

Currently about a stone and half over my ideal running weight so thought I'd start a log to motivate myself

HERE WE GO: 1/08/2010
12 Stone

4.5 mile trail run - untimed, steady pace (planned 10miles but it's tooooo bloody muggy)
Straight into

ogy 08-10-2011 08:22 PM

Bumped into sniper though as I was stretching post run, always a pleasure my good friend ;);)

ogy 08-13-2011 06:52 AM

Nice early 4 mile run, time for work now ;(

ogy 08-14-2011 10:25 PM

4 mile run at tea time

Planned a 12 miler today but as always I worked over then wanted to spend some time with the kids so had to settle for a quick one.

Better than nowt I suppose

SkinnyGuy 08-14-2011 11:18 PM

Geeze ogy your like forest gump... That's some good mileage. Wish I could still run. I used to love to trail run. I live near the sierra mountains in California.

ogy 08-15-2011 08:43 PM

Outstanding mate, just googled the place, looks awesome, I live in the fucking flattest place on earth lol, i have to do hill work on the gym treadmill!!!

I wish I was like gump, man he could run, just cant seem to get the miles in lately due to time restraints, I don't know how you lot manage, some beasty runs coming up like so I'll have to pick the pace up.

Tonight however, 5 miles, ran like fuck and managed a respectable 40 mins.

ogy 08-19-2011 11:01 AM

Tue, ran some serious hills, sticky as fook and my dog kept running off after sheep!! managed 6 miles

Wed, did a 10 miler down the Lyke wake walk,

Thurs - easy, early morning leg stretcher after last nights beast, bout 3.5 miles

I love going off to the moors I do :D:D:D:D

ogy 08-21-2011 07:25 PM

3.5 miles, man that knees giving me some jip!!

Amazing how beasty runs off road barely hurt but teeny 3.5 miles on tarmac and I feel like I've been kneecapped:D:D:D

ogy 08-24-2011 09:46 PM

Core and chest workout

3.5 mile run
6 mile mtb ride

loving this cooler weather !!!!

ogy 08-25-2011 08:05 PM

Can barely put pressure on me knee today so gonna stop running till Monday!!!
Gutted, old age creeping up!!!!

Went to gym though, chest and back (and a sneaky light jog on the treadmill)

ogy 08-30-2011 07:58 PM

7 Miles down riverside and through some muddy as fuck fields!!!!

Took forever and started pissing it down, came back filthy

LOVE IT!!!

:D:D
:D

ogy 09-02-2011 07:19 PM

Thanks Kornfed :D

Crap at keeping journals though, been hitting the gym more and more so on top of running I'm eating shit loads!!! not shifting the weight I need to before next week but looking pretty good muhahahaha

Yesterday I did 5 miles on the treadmill (hill setting) before training my shoulders and arms.

Tonight about 4 miles (roads been retarmacced so had to do a different route, I'm a creature of habit so it knocked me off a bit lol)

ogy 09-19-2011 08:41 PM

Back in the saddle

4.5 mile train run tonight

Back to eating clean too, I always go to shit that week after a hard run :D:D

really need to shift a good stone before the next hell run in November

Local 10k on Sunday

ogy 09-27-2011 07:55 PM

Full hour in the Gym today

Granted 35 mins were on the treadmill:D:D

Fuck off besty hill workout

ranged from running flat incline to 15% incline
3 - 5 min intervals
the basis is when you feel fucked and the lactic acid is raging instead of slowing down and walking you compensate the speed for height working new muscle sets then run at that new incline gradually dropping the speed then up the incline and repeat

it just stops the boredom of dreadmills

Then I fired off some upper body, chest and back.

Should have done weights first really because everybody thought I was sweating like fuck because I was doing incline chest hahaha :D:D:D

sniper300c 09-27-2011 10:45 PM

Og i wouldnt worry about it mate everytime i go to the gym and do weights i sweat like fuck, its part of having a serious workout

SkinnyGuy 09-28-2011 02:14 AM

Haha I sweat so bad you'd think I was on the tread mill.:p not joking:(

ogy 09-28-2011 06:54 AM

I normally would Kf, I'd planned a good hour on the treadmill but after doing the hill reps I was goosed after 35! Figured I'd do some lightweight high reps just to loosen up really, won't be doing it again though:D

Sniper and skinny, what can I say..... ya sweaty bastards :D:D:D:D

ogy 10-06-2011 08:02 PM

Loving it, heat wave gone, nice dark dingy nights are upon us!!

Done various 4 miles and a beasty 26 mile hike

been out tonight for a chilly run, did 4 miles at fast pace

Got a stitch today, first one in ages, forgot how much they tan!!
Great tip for getting rid of stitches is to stop, breath hard and press with two fingers on the stitch, when it's gone, give it a minute and crack on!!

i tried to run through it for about a mile and half untill I got pissed off with myself and stopped lol

SkinnyGuy 10-06-2011 08:27 PM

Is a stitch a cramp to us yanks?

ogy 10-06-2011 09:03 PM

no mate, a stitch is the pain in the bottom side of your stomach when you run too hard or too fast.

Guess im to slow to know that feeling HAHAHHA :p

davsmith 10-08-2011 07:09 PM

Side stitch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

a nice read about stitch :)

ogy 10-13-2011 06:41 PM

Went to gym for a quickie but ended up there much longer than planned

jumped on a treadmill to check my vo2, basically running for 12 mins and checking distance i did 2.79km

check your vo2 max here
12 Minute Run

I then did 20 mins of hill work, 5% incline running at 13km and fast walking at 7km at 2 minute intervals

Then I trained my legs

FUUUUUUCK it was a good leg workout, straight off the treadmill and my legs were on fire, was leg pressing much more than usual and my 'niggle' in my left calf was practically gone so I could crack on and train them.

Finished off with some arms

Feeling goood

hey ogy when your next running event? I know you got one planned.

ogy 10-14-2011 12:38 PM

I missed that Dave, good post, thankfully it hasn't been back

Cheers Kf, tbh though i was a bit embaressed with the lack of time spent doing cardio on that post lol i was just logging my vo2

I do much more than I log on here, Sniper saw me out the other day, I'd taken the dog out with me for 4.5 miles, had him sat at the side of the road waiting to cross and sniper beeped his horn at me in his big fuck of Chrysler, my dog shit itself and bolted across the road hahaha

Skinny, I had a 10k run last weekend and another early in November but the next Hell run is on Nov 27th then we've signed up for another 26 mile orienteering hike the sunday after. I've had to cut back a bit as I've started a business and just can't find the bloody time, plus they are like £30 each to enter!!!

ogy 10-16-2011 09:53 AM

nice early 45 min run

not sure of distance but won't be far off 8k, not overly fast but my trail run is becoming way too boggy to do speed work

Also had a cracking session with the missus last night AND this morning so that's my cardio done for today :D

And an almighty skip in my step ' walks of whistling a happy tune'

Have a great weekend all

:D:D

ogy 10-16-2011 11:21 AM

I keep talking about not running so much and hitting the gym more and more mate, takes a fair old time to recover these days but it never seems to happen though

I love getting muddy as fuck and pushing myself to the limit of endurance. (I know you guys understand lol)

I mainly run trail these days so the gym work for me at the moment is mainly core strengthening and I'm trying to build up my legs (I have never trained my legs in the gym but see other trail runners with big fuck off tree trunk legs)

How much cardio do you do KF?,
It would be interesting to see how much distance you can cover on a treadmill for 12 mins (the old sports scientist in me)

ogy 10-17-2011 06:31 PM

kf you're a fucking monster, I bet i'd feel the earth shuddering over here if you ran down the street!!!

Started a new plan today, I proper need to shift a stone I've been carrying around for way too long stone and half if poss!!

However I ended up working later than I hoped so I squeezed a quick 3.5 miles one in but put a 15lb bag on my back.

ogy 10-19-2011 05:54 PM

Went to the gym today and trained abs and lower back for 30mins

Was gonna hit some weights and do shoulders but there was a milf on one of the concept 2 rowers, before I knew it I was on the one next to her, big old mirror in front of us :D:D:D

And stroke............ And stroke........... And stroke.......... hahahaha

ended up finishing my workout on the rower, 35 mins

Also fired off a 3.5 mile bag run last night.

Struggling like fuck to find the time to cram sessions in lately

ogy 10-23-2011 09:51 AM

7 miles today gonna head over to the gym later if no work comes in too
Feeling awesome lately

Burning fat sharpish now, lost 6lb and starting to look more ripped finally lol
I knew there were abs under there :D

just signed up for this bruiser

Choice of distances, 17,26 or 33 miles on t'moors, minimal road usage
I'll aim for the 26 but hopefully fire off the 33
Home - Osmotherley Phoenix

Got the 42 mile lyke wake in mind to run too, hiked it a few time but to run the 42 I'll need to be in ridiculous shape

ogy 11-04-2011 05:11 PM

Loving it, job cancelled on me so it was rush free gym time today!!!

Trained my core, working the abs good and proper today
Little bit of chest (incline and flat) and triceps

Then 35 mins hammering the treadmill, full hills prog at 10-15kmph

Then a 10 minute rest and hit the legs

These squats are brutal!!

Really starting to feel the benefit of training my legs more, I'm getting much more out of them when running hills.
