Hyperthropy of the Lats
Muscles can often be divided into multiple regions – this can be contingent on both muscle fiber angle and resulting moment arms as well as unique neuromuscular compartments. The lats can be divided into three unique sections based off of muscle fiber angles and internal moment arms. With these ideas in mind, we can deduce that exercises that involve shoulder extension in a position of slight to moderate shoulder abduction are likely most effective for targeting the upper portion of the lats – this would include exercises like wide grip rows. The middle and lower portions are more involved in shoulder adduction and are likely better targeted by pulldown movements of various grips and angles. Use a wide variety of exercises for optimal lat development!
