deadlift debate
deadlift being my fave training
have few points to ask/make i do mine from floor but how do you do yours ie from floor from rack (like dorian ) or maybe just off ground another thing i see all the time seems like loads of people do but bouncing the bar from floor when deadlifting to me it looks like injury waiting to happen i always put mind down and lift it DEAD from floor i feel that first explosion of energy is the nuts whats people thoughts on bouncing the bar off floor i see people bounce and one side bounces first then the lift is wonky i think this is due to hand placement also straps when do you use i allways use at bigger lifts where i just cant grip it i try untill i just cant or slips some use right from the off |
Love deadlifts as well. I do first rep off the floor and from just below knee racks. With stiff legged deads I don't ground between reps as I like the stretch, but do for normal deads. I only wear straps when my grip goes. I also found a long time ago that an alternate grip adds another 20% to the weight I can lift without straps. I never bounce a weight! Ever! Ouch. |
Used to do full deads but now from the rack and never bounce. I do stiff leg deadlifts from the floor. The feeling in your or around your nuts could be a hernia that's the same feeling i had when I had one. Straps I used to use but the type of work I do has made my grip and forearm strength insane. I will use them if I'm training to failure

Madness!
Almost guaranteed to pick up a bad injury one day . . . and . . . what's the point? |

We all cheat a bit when going too heavy but there's cheating and there's bouncing. And let's be honest, when we cheat we know its an ego thing and not an aid to training. If we cheated all the time we'd get nowhere. I just wouldn't bounce the bar when deadlifting. Or barbell rows. I might stand up a bit too much for these sometimes but I wouldn't bounce the bar. |
deads and squats i love and if not doing it correct your kidding yourself
also how many poeple seem to have higher bench press than deadlift or squat person in gym benches 140kg witch is dam good lift but never seen him deadlift 100kg he simply says he cant go that high and same person only squats 70kg everyone seems to have back or knee problems and im sure back problems due to too much upper body work and lack of lower and back nowdays is like the legs of the upper body untrained |

When I was having back problems years ago I stopped squats and deadlifts. It was just too risky. But with hindsight I can't help wondering whether I should have lowered the weight right down and built up some good core strength. I'll never know but I'm definitely glad they play a big part in my workouts these days. I highly recommend them. |
