I'm a nursing student, and I've learned that you can reduce the amount of plaque in your arteries over time by cleaning up your diet, lower saturated fat intake, and also using prescription lipid lowering medications. The goal is lowering the LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL by consuming healthy fats like fish oils, and flax seeds, etc.
Exercise will also improve your cholesterol levels and over time reduce plaque in your arteries, but this requires a dedicated effort in avoiding fast foods, fried foods and limited fatty meat intake and increasing fruit and vegetable intake.
