There will always be studies to prove this and that. We humans will always try to prove that we can redesign nature.
But it's really quite simple. What are we designed to eat? And the answer is mostly animals or fish etc with some foraging thrown in.
What are animals and fish made of? Fat and protein obviously. So why the hell would nature give us a food stuff that we are designed to eat that is in any way toxic.
Keep that in mind and base your diet on this principle and you can't really go far wrong.
And if anyone is worried that fast acting protein products like whey is in some way going beyond what nature intended then clearly any form of sugar is totally out of the question.
